Maya Azucena: 50 Years Of Partnership Celebration Tour Lesotho

The U.S. Embassy in Maseru hosted award-winning American singer/songwriter Maya Azucena and her band from September 19-24 to help celebrate 50 years of partnership between United States and Lesotho, and 50 years of Lesotho’s independence. During this visit to the Mountain Kingdom, Maya collaborated with local musical artists, conducted master classes for singers and musicians, and performed for the public in different locations such as Malealea in Mafeteng, the historical town of Morija and the main concert in Maseru on September 23, 2016.

 
 

This video highlights some of the activities she and her band were involved in as well as musical collaborations with Basotho artists such as renowned Jazz musician Bhudaza Mapefane, multi-award-winning choral music group Serumula, vocalist Mookho Moqhali and the young and upcoming Sotho Sounds band.

Season 1 is based on Maya’s adventures in the streets of New Orleans and appearance at the 2013 Essence Festival on a lineup that included Beyonce, Jill Scott, LL Cool J, and others.
